As parents, we want our children to thrive and reach their full potential. However, developmental challenges sometimes hinder their progress and leave us feeling helpless. At Connect Movement Therapy, we understand these struggles and are committed to providing effective solutions. One of the most powerful tools in our arsenal is the INPP Method, a proven approach to addressing neuro-motor immaturity (NMI) in children over seven years of age.

In this blog post, we’ll explore the INPP Method, discussing its research-backed foundations, the difficulties it can help overcome, and how to determine if this method suits your child.

What is the INPP Method?

The INPP Method is a noninvasive approach to assessing and addressing neuromotor immaturity (NMI) in children over seven years of age. NMI refers to a missed stage of early development, which can lead to the persistence of primitive reflexes that should have been inhibited in the first year of life. By missing these critical early developmental milestones, the body can’t support the learning process. These uninhibited reflexes can interfere with balance, motor control, eye functioning, coordination, and perceptual skills and contribute to behavioural symptoms such as frustration, hyperactivity, and hypersensitivity.

The Research Behind the INPP Method:

The INPP has been at the forefront of researching the effects of NMI on learning outcomes, emotional well-being, and behaviour. The institute has developed reliable methods for identifying and assessing signs of NMI in children and adults by applying standardised tests originally used in medicine. This extensive research has led to the development of the INPP Method, which has helped thousands of children and families worldwide.

How the INPP Method Can Help:

The INPP Method can assist children in overcoming difficulties associated with:

  • Attention and concentration
  • Reading, writing, spelling, and maths
  • Clumsiness and restlessness
  • Coordination and balance (including sports activity)
  • Inability to self-regulate
  • Dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADD
  • Anxiety and panic disorders

By inhibiting retained primitive reflexes, the INPP Method allows developmental building blocks missed in the early stages of life to have a second chance. The program implements a noninvasive technique of assessing and addressing developmental immaturity, supporting and enhancing the foundations for learning and daily functioning.

The INPP Screening Questionnaire:

We recommend completing the Child Screening Questionnaire to determine if the INPP Method is suitable for your child. This questionnaire helps identify the presence of abnormal reflexes, which may indicate the need for further investigation. If your child scores seven or more ‘yes’ answers on the questionnaire, exploring the possibility of underlying neuro-motor immaturity is advised.
